Mercedes’ new G550 gets a little softer with age but retains true off-road capability
Mercedes says that the 2019 G550 SUV will have 10.6 inches of ground clearance to the front axle housing, which would get even higher if Mercedes continued its 4x4-squared models. That’s slightly higher than the currently available G-Wagen, but it’s probably not the reason you’ll head to the ‘Benz dealer. Mercedes also increased its climbing ability, breakover and departure angles and its water fording depth.
Powering the 2019 Mercedes G550 is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that sends its 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
